The P. Buckley Moss Foundation's National Educators Grants.



The P. Buckley Moss Foundation awards National Educators Grants.

These grants, up to $1,000, will support a new or evolving program that integrates the arts into educational programming. The purpose is to aid and support teachers who wish to establish an effective learning tool using the arts in teaching children who learn differently.

Teacher Awards for Literacy

The Random House Teacher Awards recognize the nation's most dynamic and resourceful K-12 public school teachers who use their creativity to inspire and successfully instill a love of reading in students. The winning teachers will be awarded grants to help them make their innovative reading programs possible. The first place winner will receive $10,000; second place $5,000, and third place $2,500. Winners will be notified in advance of the annual NCTE meeting. In addition to grant monies, the first place winner's conference registration, travel, and lodging will be covered.

Scholastic Library Publishing National Library Week Grant

Today’s libraries are modern community centers, places of learning, information and entertainment. This National Library Week, celebrate the ways your makes a difference in people's lives and apply for the 2014 Scholastic Library Publishing National Library Week grant.

U.S. libraries of all types are invited to apply for a $3,000 grant that will be awarded to the best public awareness campaign promoting the theme Communities matter @ your library during National Library Week (April 13-19, 2014). 

To apply for this year's grant, complete the electronic application available through the link below.

Guidelines: Proposals must:
1. Use the “Lives change @ your library®” theme.
2. Use the @ your library® brand in accordance with the official trademark policy in all   final promotional materials (See the “Download logos” section of www.ala.org/@yourlibrary for the official trademark policy).  
Examples of not using the brand correctly are:
  • @ your HOMETOWN USA library (inserting words into phrase)
  • @ your SCHOOL LIBRARY MEDIA CENTER (inserting words into phrase)
3. Involve at least one other type of library and/or community organization.  Community organizations should include groups outside of the library; internal library groups like Friends groups can be listed as program partners but applications should also include non-library groups.
4. Be directly tied to National Library Week but need not be limited to one week.
5. Have clearly stated objectives, a realistic budget and a timeline.
6. Specify a coordinator responsible for implementation.
7. Describe a method of evaluation.

Find programmers at the CT Arts for Learning's September 20 Artist Expo

Join Connecticut Arts for Learning in Hamden for an exciting day filled with arts education performances.
The Art Experience Showcase is scheduled for September 20, 2013 at the Hamden Middle School, 2623 Dixwell Avenue from 8:30AM-2:30PM. 
I went to one of these showcases in April 2013 and it was really cool - you get a preview of the performer and what they do.The day includes over 50 artist programs, the opportunity to speak to performing and teaching artists, continental breakfast and lunch. 
You must preregister by calling 203-230-8101 or emailing info@yaconn.org with your name, address, phone and affiliation. The cost is $10 per person

NEH Digital Humanities Start-Up Grants



The Digital Humanities Start-Up Grants program awards relatively small grants to support the planning stages of innovative projects that promise to benefit the humanities.

Deadline September 12, 2013 for Projects Beginning May 2014

Proposals should be for the planning or initial stages of digital initiatives in any area of the humanities. Digital Humanities Start-Up Grants may involve
  • research that brings new approaches or documents best practices in the study of the digital humanities;
  • planning and developing prototypes of new digital tools for preserving, analyzing, and making accessible digital resources, including libraries’ and museums’ digital assets;
  • scholarship that focuses on the history, criticism, and philosophy of digital culture and its impact on society;
  • scholarship or studies that examine the philosophical or practical implications and impact of the use of emerging technologies in specific fields or disciplines of the humanities, or in interdisciplinary collaborations involving several fields or disciplines;
  • innovative uses of technology for public programming and education utilizing both traditional and new media; and
  • new digital modes of publication that facilitate the dissemination of humanities scholarship in advanced academic as well as informal or formal educational settings at all academic levels.
FYI: Your historical odds are not great; in its last five competitions the Digital Humanities Start-up Grants program received an average of 151 applications per competition. The program made an average of 26 awards per competition, for a funding ratio of 17 percent.
