Services Librarian, Cushing/Whitney Medical Library at Yale University will be teaching a class from June 5-August 10, 2013. The class is
designed for public, school, and health center librarians directly serving
students or the public.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will
be able to:
1. Explain the history, current roles,
and opportunities for providing accurate and useful health information to consumers.
2. Conduct a consumer health reference
interview.
3. Understand the ethical concerns of
providing health information without health training.
4. Identify, organize, and evaluate
appropriate health information resources and services for consumers and care givers in
particular contexts.
5. Promote and market electronic
resources to constituent communities.
6. Conduct health information outreach
and education in presentation contexts, individually and collaboratively.
Students will also learn how to make resource web pages
with Springshare Libguide templates and learn how to teach health information
literacy. Two of the MLA consumer health recommended books are required
texts.
Registration information is found here. There is a prerequisite of a basic reference course.
The Course number is LIBR 220-13 for the summer
"special session", for those that already have an MLS and want to take
an additional course.
