The Louis Calder Foundation for schools

The Louis Calder Foundation is national in scope and "seeks to promote the scholastic development of children and youth by improving elementary and secondary education through its support of charter and parochial schools."

The Foundation currently gives funding consideration to educational programs in four main areas:
  • Development of new charter and independent faith-based K-12 schools;
  • Expansion of existing, high-performing charter management organizations and diocesan schools;
  • Professional development; and
  • School capital projects.
Charter management organizations, new and existing charter schools, parochial schools and not-for-profit organizations providing content rich curricula are encouraged to submit a letter of inquiry with a summary of their plans, programs and projects that meet Foundation objectives.

The Foundation does not accept unsolicited proposals; organizations unfamiliar to the Foundation, or those that are not current grantees, are welcome to submit a letter of inquiry.
A brief background letter describing the organization’s plans and efforts should include a concise statement of the purpose of the program proposed for funding.
