International Paper: Environmental Ed & Literacy

IP's two primary areas of support are environmental education and literacy.

While all the particulars are here, IP seems to be very keen on supporting "non-profit organizations in the communities where our employees live and work." Grants are reviewed quarterly on February 1, May 1, August 1 and November 1.

Environmental EducationGiven the vast nature of this subject area, the Foundation has decided to focus on:
• National Geographic Kids Magazine subscriptions at schools in local communities
• Earth’s Birthday Project kits for children
• programs that coincide with content from the pbs.org website ECOinvestigators
• science based programs targeting children
• outdoor classrooms at schools or in communities
• outdoor science programs tied to forestry, air or water quality
• programs that educate and promote recycling and composting

Literacy• program that enhance reading materials at school and community libraries
• programs that enhance the reading skills of children
• programs that teach English as a second language

IP also funds New Critical Community NeedsThe Foundation also considers providing “seed” money on a one-time, non-recurring basis for these needs.
• The project must be a new “critical” community initiative.
• The proposal should provide a benefit to the community at large.
• Sources of potential future funding must be identified.

Two from Roads to Reading

The Annual Competitive Book Donation Program. The Road to Reading's Annual Competitive Book Donation Program donates books to organizations that have a strong focus on remedial reading or tutoring. The books that are available through this program are appropriate for ages 6 months to young adult. Eligible organizations include individual schools, libraries, and childcare centers. Deadline: March 30, 2012
