Pay shipping only for Literacy Empowerment Foundation books via the Reading Resource Project

LEF (the Literacy Empowerment Foundation) Books’ Reading Resource Project is an ongoing program that runs throughout the year. The program distributes softcover books FREE of charge for Read Across America Day, National Drop Everything and Read Day, Children's Book Week, International Children's Book Day, and other literacy programs.

Recipients pay shipping, handling, and administrative costs: $0.68 per softcover book ($68 per set of 100 books). Reading Resource Project books come in sets of 100 books per set.

There will be at least 10 different titles in each set. Reading levels are available for Pre-K through Second Grade. Book selection and quantity is dependent upon availability, so there is no guarantee of specific titles. Books are sorted and shipped as close to a project's needs as possible, with regard to reading level and topic.

Wish You Well Foundation for Family Literacy

Wish You Well Foundation Grants support family literacy in the United States by fostering and  promoting the development and expansion of new and existing literacy and educational programs.



According to the program website, “funding request should include the following materials”:
  • Wish You Well Foundation Donation Request Application
  • Single-page proposal that includes
    • The organization’s history, mission, and contact information
    • The amount requested
    • The program or event to be funded.
  • Requests may also include supplemental information for consideration

The board meets an average of four times per year to review and vote on applications; most requests range from $200 to $10,000. Organizations are reminded to base their requested amount on the program's unique needs for funding.

Awesome Foundation Food Chapter / CT Chapter



The Food Chapter of the AwesomeFoundation is accepting applications to further food awesomeness in the universe. They give out $1,000 micro-grants once a month. Anyone can apply. The Awesome Foundation pools money from micro-trustees and provides upfront grants with no strings attached. Autonomous chapters offer funding in specific geographic areas or for specific issue areas. Online applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.Maximum Grant: $1,000. Deadline: Anytime. 

There is also a CT chapter of the Awesome Foundation which has funded the Dream MAKER Team, a summer program for kids in Stamford and "Help Us Grow" (Ridgefield) a public garden that allows visitors to explore, enjoy and learn about their environment, it’s sustainability, and beauty through horticulture. The garden provides, jobs, productive day programs and one day a small, but safe residential community for adults on the Autism Spectrum. 

The Awesome Foundation for the Arts and Sciences is an ever-growing, worldwide network of people devoted to forwarding the interest of awesomeness in the universe. Created in the long hot summer days of 2009 in Boston, the Foundation distributes a series of monthly $1,000 grants to projects and their creators. The money is pooled together from the coffers of ten or so self-organizing “micro-trustees” and given upfront in cash, check, or gold doubloons. The chapters are autonomous and organized by the trustees around geographic areas or topics of interest.

Countess Moira Charitable Foundation



The Countess Moira Charitable Foundation makes grants to private nonprofit or public tax-exempt organizations. 

The Foundation accepts letters of inquiry year-round for operating, program, endowment and capital funding needs that support their mission statement: “The foundation’s mission is to aid the well-being of youth anywhere in the World.” Specifically, we only consider unsolicited inquiries from organizations in the New York tri-state area. It is suggested that you make an initial contact to inquiries@countessmoirafdn.org before making a formal grant proposal.

Humana Foundation



Though the site is a little vague on specifics, the Humana Foundation Community Grants support charitable activities that promote healthy lives and communities. It's worth a look if your idea meshes with one or more of the Foundation's three health-related giving focuses:

  • Childhood health and education
  • Health literacy
  • Active lifestyles

Applications accepted from November 1 through June 15.

We also look for projects that are innovative, replicable, have prospects for long-term sustainability and measureable outcome, located in areas where Humana has a strong business presence.

TD Charitable Foundation nfp Training Resource Fund


$1,000 grants from the TD Charitable Foundation Nonprofit Training Resource Fund will be awarded to eligible organizations for employees to attend approved classes and courses that will enhance their job performance.Funds may be used for classes and courses pertaining to the job the employee performs. Classes and courses may be one-day classes or part of a certification program. 



Organizations must have a mission/focus that promotes one of the following:
  • Affordable housing for low- to moderate-income individuals
  • Increased economic (small business) development
  • Financial literacy for low- and moderate-income youth, individuals or families
  • After-school or extracurricular programming for low- and moderate-income children
