Wells Fargo in Fairfield, Hartford, Middlesex, and New Haven counties


Wells Fargo makes grants in two primary areas in the Connecticut counties of Fairfield, Hartford, Middlesex, and New Haven. The application and scads of information is online. Deadlines are rolling.

Community Development, supporting the improvement of low- and moderate-income communities through programs that:
  • Create and sustain affordable housing
  • Facilitate financial literacy and empowerment
  • Provide job training and workforce development
  • Revitalize and stabilize communities
Education, supporting organizations and programs that:
  • Work to eliminate pre-K – 12th grade achievement gap in public education through curriculum-based or school-sponsored programs
  • Support post-secondary education
Wells Fargo also considers grants in the following areas: Arts and Culture, Civic Engagement, Environment, and Human Services.

501c3’s and governmental agencies - including public school systems – are eligible. The application is online only.

Bowling to Teachers Classroom Supplies Grant Program



Kids Bowl Free is offering K-8 teachers a chance to win $200 for classroom supplies and also give their kids a chance to bowl for free a few times over the summer. Sounds pretty fun.

Entrants must visit www.kidsbowlfree.com/grants, complete the application form, and answer all of the questions on the “Bowling Open Book Test.” Drawings will be conducted on March 20, 2013, April 17, 2013, August 21, 2013, September 18, 2013, and October 15, 2013 or within a reasonable time thereafter. Deadline: September 30, 2013.

Grants for Non-Profit Grassroots Organizations from the Ben and Jerry’s Foundation



The Ben and Jerry’s Foundation provides grants that support non-profit grassroots organizations which create societal, institutional, and/or environmental change by addressing the root causes of social or environmental problems through programs that lead to sustainable adoption of new ways of thinking and acting.

Award amounts are either small (up to $1,000) or full ($1,001-$15,000); nonprofit grassroots organizations with budgets under $250,000 or organizations that have a sponsoring agency with nonprofit status are eligible to apply.  

Deadlines for letters of interest are rolling.

Libri Books for Children Program



The Libri Foundation donates new, quality, hardcover children’s books to small, rural public U.S. libraries. 

More information. The remaining 2013 deadline is (postmarked by) August 15th.

Only libraries within the United States are eligible, and generally the average total operating budgets of grant recipients is less than $40,000. Libraries are qualified on an individual basis. In general, county libraries should serve a population under 16,000 and town libraries should serve a population under 10,000 (usually under 5,000). Libraries should be in a rural area, have a limited operating budget, and an active children's department.

JC Penney Cares

JC Penney supports communities at local, regional and national levels starting with a Letter of Inquiry (LOI) process. 

You can find the eligibility requirements and submission instructions in full here & briefly below. 
 
Grants Focus Areas
  • Health and welfare
  • Education
  • Arts and culture
The LOI requirements are basic, like mailing address/contact info and name and title of Chief Executive.

The Program Request is a maximum of three pages, which includes a (maximum) 2–page narrative and a 1-page line item program budget.
The Event Request is a maximum of five pages and inlcudes sponsorship levels with benefits and things like samples of brochures.
The In–Kind Donation Request is a one page (maximum) narrative.
