Information Technology Pathfinder Award



This award recognizes and honors school librarians demonstrating vision and leadership through the use of information technology to build lifelong learners. Applicants must be personal members of AASL.

Monetary amount: $1,000 to the school librarian; $500 to the school library program

There are two divisions; one for the innovative use of information technology in the school library program in an elementary (K-6) setting and one for the innovative use of information technology in the school library program in a secondary (7-12) setting.

Details; due date: February 1, 2014. 

Applications are judged on the basis of:
  1. the identification and utilization of technologies which address the needs of the school community;
  2. the integration of technology into the school curriculum; and
  3. the depth of the impact on student learning.

Champions for Healthy Kids Program



The General Mills Foundation’s Champions for Healthy Kids program makes grants to nonprofit organizations working to improve nutrition and physical fitness behaviors for youth ages 2-18.

Fifty grants of $10,000 are available to select applicants; NFP’s are eligible.

Deadline: December 3, 2013.

Wells Fargo in Fairfield, Hartford, Middlesex, and New Haven counties


Wells Fargo makes grants in two primary areas in the Connecticut counties of Fairfield, Hartford, Middlesex, and New Haven. The application and scads of information is online. Deadlines are rolling.

Community Development, supporting the improvement of low- and moderate-income communities through programs that:
  • Create and sustain affordable housing
  • Facilitate financial literacy and empowerment
  • Provide job training and workforce development
  • Revitalize and stabilize communities
Education, supporting organizations and programs that:
  • Work to eliminate pre-K – 12th grade achievement gap in public education through curriculum-based or school-sponsored programs
  • Support post-secondary education
Wells Fargo also considers grants in the following areas: Arts and Culture, Civic Engagement, Environment, and Human Services.

501c3’s and governmental agencies - including public school systems – are eligible. The application is online only.

Fuel Up to Play 60 Grants for schools

Fuel Up to Play 60 Grants award funding to schools to start or maintain a healthy nutrition and physical activity program.
Programs should be designed to increase:
    * Student awareness of the importance of healthy eating and increased physical activity
    * Student access to and consumption of nutrient-rich foods, including low-fat and fat-free dairy, fruits, vegetables and whole grains
    * Student opportunities for and participation in physical activity in school
    * Sustainable changes in making schools healthier
Eligibility: Schools must enroll in Fuel Up to Play 60 for the 2012-2013 year and participate in the National School Lunch Program.
Amount of funding: Up to $4,000.   Deadline: November 1, 2013 and June 4, 2013

Find programmers at the CT Arts for Learning's September 20 Artist Expo

Join Connecticut Arts for Learning in Hamden for an exciting day filled with arts education performances.
The Art Experience Showcase is scheduled for September 20, 2013 at the Hamden Middle School, 2623 Dixwell Avenue from 8:30AM-2:30PM.
I went to one of these showcases in April 2013 and it was really cool - you get a preview of the performer and what they do.The day includes over 50 artist programs, the opportunity to speak to performing and teaching artists, continental breakfast and lunch. See pictures here.
